Amphetamine or Amfetamine(Alpha-Methyl-PHenEThylAMINE), also known as beta-phenyl-isopropylamine and benzedrine, is a prescription stimulant commonly used to treat Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in adults and children. It is also used to treat symptoms of traumatic brain injury and the daytime drowsiness symptoms of narcolepsy and chronic fatigue syndrome. Initially it was more popularly used to diminish the appetite and to control weight. Brand names of the drugs that contain Amphetamine include Adderall and Dexedrine. The drug is also used illegally as a recreational club drug and as a performance enhancer. The term "Amphetamine" may also refer to the class of compounds derived from Amphetamine, often referred to as the Substituted Amphetamines.

Amphetamin (alpha-Methylphenethylamin, auch Phenylisopropylamin oder „Speed“) ist eine synthetische Substanz, die nicht in der Natur nachgewiesen wurde. Das Amphetamin ist die Stammverbindung der gleichnamigen Strukturklasse, der eine Vielzahl psychotroper Substanzen angehört, unter anderem MDMA (Ecstasy) oder das auch in der Natur vorkommende Ephedrin. Amphetamin ist eine weltweit kontrollierte Droge; Handel und Besitz ohne Erlaubnis sind strafbar. Es ist ein indirektes Sympathomimetikum und hat somit eine anregende Wirkung auf das Zentralnervensystem. Aufgrund seiner stimulierenden und euphorisierenden Wirkung ist Amphetamin eine häufig missbrauchte Droge, die auf dem Schwarzmarkt meist unter den Namen Speed oder Pep angeboten wird.

Amfetamina (nazwa systematyczna: (±)1-fenylopropylo-2-amina; znana również jako: benzedryna, psychedryna, perwityna) – organiczny związek chemiczny o silnym działaniu psychotropowym pobudzający ośrodkowy układ nerwowy. Jest on mieszaniną racemiczną dwóch odmian prawoskrętnej (2S)(+)-1-fenylo-2-aminopropanu (dekstroamfetamina) i lewoskrętnej (2R)(-)-1-fenylo-2-aminopropanu (lewoamfetamina), które różnią się działaniem fizjologicznym.

Dal punto di vista farmacologico esso è un agonista indiretto del sistema catecolaminergico, agisce soprattutto a livello centrale inibendo la ricaptazione di noradrenalina e serotonina ed ha una discreta capacità inibitoria nei confronti delle monoammino ossidasi. La sua azione si traduce quindi in una maggiore permanenza di neurotrasmettitore a livello sinaptico.
