amniotic fluid

Amniotic fluid is the watery liquid surrounding and cushioning a growing fetus within the amnion. It allows the fetus to move freely without the walls of the uterus being too tight against its body. Buoyancy is also provided.The amnion grows and begins to fill, mainly with water, around two weeks after fertilisation. After a further 10 weeks the liquid contains proteins, carbohydrates, lipids and phospholipids, urea and electrolytes, all which aid in the growth of the fetus. In the late stages of gestation much of the amniotic fluid consists of fetal urine.

Die Fruchtblase (engl.: amniotic sac) bezeichnet die Gesamtheit der mit Fruchtwasser gefüllten Embryonalhüllen, den Eihäuten. Die Embryonalhüllen umgeben den Embryo bei allen Säugetieren während des Wachstums in der Gebärmutter. Bei der Geburt platzt die Fruchtblase (Blasensprung) durch die Wirkung der Wehen und entfaltet den Zervikalkanal.

El saco amniótico es la cubierta de dos membranas que cubre al embrión y que se forma entre el octavo y noveno día de la fecundación. La membrana interna llamada amnios contiene el líquido amniótico y el feto en su interior. La membrana exterior, llamado corion, contiene el amnios y es parte de la placenta. El saco amniótico se utiliza en oftalmología para reconstruir y tratar lesiones de la superficie ocular, tanto en la córnea como en la conjuntiva, en tratamiento de quemaduras, en cirugía reparadora y maxilofacial.
