For the alien race in Stephen Donaldson's The Gap Cycle, see Amnion (Gap Cycle). The amnion is a membranous sac which surrounds and protects the embryo. It is developed in reptiles, birds, and mammals, which are hence called “Amniota”; but not in amphibia and fish, which are consequently termed “Anamnia”. The primary function of this is the protection of the embryo for its future development into a fetus and eventually an animal.

Das Amnion (Amnios, auch Schafshaut) ist die dünne, gefäßlose innerste Eihaut und damit Teil der Fruchtblase der Amnioten (Reptilien, Vögel und Säugetiere). Das Chorion (Zottenhaut) bildet die mittlere und die Dezidua (Siebhaut) die äußere Eihaut. Die vom Amnion umschlossene Höhle vergrößert sich während der Embryonalentwicklung sehr schnell und umgibt schließlich allseitig den Fetus. Sein fruchtseitiges, einschichtiges Epithel sondert das Fruchtwasser (Amnionflüssigkeit) ab.

Owodnia - jedna z błon płodowych, powstaje z ektodermy i mezodermy. Otacza płód pęcherzem płodowym stanowiącym szczelnie zamknięty worek wypełniony płynem. Płyn ten nazywany jest płynem owodniowym (wody płodowe) i tworzy on środowisko życia wewnątrzmacicznego. Umożliwia płodowi nie tylko swobodne poruszanie się w łonie matki, ale również stanowi pewnego rodzaju amortyzator chroniąc płód przed urazami. Poza tym zabezpiecza płód przed wysychaniem, wahaniami temperatury jak również izoluje dziecko przed silnymi bodźcami docierającymi ze świata zewnętrznego np. głośnymi dźwiękami. Âmnio é uma membrana derivada da somotopleura que é a combinação do ectodema com o mesoderma.Tem a função de produção do líquido amniotico que protege o embrião contra choques mecânicos e dessecação. Ocorrem em repteis, aves e mamiferos.
