amice

The amice is a liturgical vestment used mainly in the Roman Catholic Church, in some Anglican churches, and in the Armenian Church. It consists of a white cloth connected to two long ribbon-like attachments, by which it is fastened around the shoulders of the priest. Before the liturgical reforms of 1972, its use was mandatory for all Roman Catholic Masses, but it is only required today if the alb does not cover the priest's ordinary clothing. Many priests choose to wear the amice for reasons of tradition or to prevent damage to their other vestments due to perspiration.

Un amict est un rectangle de toile fine muni de deux cordons qu'un prêtre catholique doit passer autour du cou avant de revêtir son aube. Le mot amictus vient du latin amicire qui signifie « couvrir ». L'amict joue dans la tradition catholique le rôle de bouclier contre le mal, protégant le célébrant des pouvoirs du malin.

Das Amikt oder auch Humerale ist ein rechteckiges, weites Schultertuch, welches der katholische Priester und Diakon  bei der Messfeier unter der Albe tragen. Es umhüllt Hals und Schultern und wird mit Bändern vor der Brust gebunden, um ein Verrutschen zu verhindern.Ein dem Amikt ähnliches Kleidungsstück war schon in der Antike gebräuchlich, so tragen beispielsweise die auf der Trajanssäule dargestellten römischen Legionäre ein dem Amikt/Humerale ähnliches Schultertuch.

Humerał - w Kościele katolickim biała chusta będąca elementem stroju liturgicznego, okrywająca szyję i ramiona noszącego albę. Humerał pochodzi od starożytnej chusty noszonej przez ludzi przynależących do wyższych warstw społecznych.Od IX w. pełni funkcję szaty liturgicznej - pierwotnie funkcję taką uzyskał we Frankonii. Obecnie jest coraz rzadziej używany, choć w niektórych obrządkach może być wymagany (np. ryt trydencki).Czysto praktycznym powodem noszenia humerału pod albą jest ochrona alby  przed potem. Ewentualnie dla ukrycia stroju świeckiego, który nie powinien być widoczny.
