amaranth

Amaranthus, collectively known as amaranth or pigweed, is a cosmopolitan genus of herbs. Approximately 60 species are presently recognised, with inflorescences and foliage ranging from purple and red to gold. Members of this genus share many characteristics and uses with members of the closely related genus Celosia.

Amaranth est l'un des singles issus de l'album Dark Passion Play du groupe de métal symphonique finlandais Nightwish. Il est sorti le 24 août 2007. Le clip a été tourné à Los Angeles et a été réalisé par Anti Jokinen. Il est inspiré par un célèbre tableau finlandais (de Hugo Simberg) appelé "The Wounded Angel".

Les Amarantes (ou Amaranthes) sont des plantes annuelles de la famille des Amaranthacées appartenant au genre Amaranthus, dont certaines espèces sont cultivées comme plantes potagères, pour leurs feuilles comestibles à la manière des épinards ou pour leurs graines, et parfois comme plantes ornementales pour leur floraison en épis spectaculaires. Certaines espèces sont des mauvaises herbes communes dans les champs cultivés.

Amaranth è il secondo singolo dei Nightwish, tratto dall' album Dark Passion Play. Il singolo è stato rilasciato il 22 agosto dalla Spinefarm Records e il 24 agosto dalla Nuclear Blast Records. Il 24 agosto 2007 sul sito del gruppo è apparsa la notizia che "Amaranth" ha ricevuto un premio per aver venduto 5.000 copie nei primi due giorni di uscita. Il 29 agosto il singolo ha raggiunto la prima posizione nelle classifiche metal finlandesi, mentre a settembre ha ottenuto lo stesso risultato in Ungheria e Spagna.
