aluminum production

Aluminum metal is produced by electrolysis of aluminum oxide dissolved in a high-temperature molten-salt electrolyte. Aluminum is deposited as a liquid metal on the cathode of the electrolytic cell (the aluminum cations are reduced to liquid metal).
