allemand

An allemande (also spelled allemanda, almain, or alman) (from the French word for "German") is one of the most popular instrumental dance forms in Baroque music, and a standard element of a suite. Originally, the allemande formed the first movement of the suite, before the courante, but, later, it was generally preceded by an introductory movement, such as a prelude.

La langue allemande (Deutsch en allemand) est une langue indo-européenne appartenant à la branche occidentale des langues germaniques. "Germanique" et "allemand" ne sont donc pas synonymes. Le terme germanique "theut-" [ðeut-] signifie "peuple" et le nom des Teutons en dérive. Son dérivé "theutisk" a donné en allemand "deutsch" et en français les mots "tudesque" et "thiois" ; en italien "allemand" se dit "tedesco", et en danois "tysk". Il est aussi à l'origine du mot anglais "Dutch" qui signifie abusivement "hollandais", bien qu'aux États-Unis certains dialectes allemands soient appelés "Dutch". La racine theut- ("peuple") est d'origine indo-européenne, et on la retrouve en gaulois touta ("peuple") et en breton tud ("les gens"), ainsi qu'en latin totus (le "tout", "tous").

Die Allemande (französisch für "Deutsche") war seit dem 16. Jahrhundert ein in Frankreich, aber auch in Spanien und England bekannter, zweiteiliger Schreittanz. Der erste Teil (Vortanz) stand meist im langsamen 4/4-Takt, der zweite Teil (Nachtanz) im schnellen Dreiertakt.Es ist anzunehmen, dass die Allemande aus deutschen Volkstänzen entstanden ist, dies ist aber nicht beweisbar. Der Vortanz entstand vermutlich aus dem Reigen des Mittelalters. Wie das Bild zeigt, wurden beim Nachtanz Armfiguren getanzt, die auch im Ländlertanz vorkommen.Später entwickelte sich die Allemande, wie auch Courante, Sarabande und Gigue zu einem festen Bestandteil der klassischen Suite der barocken Musik.
