Adrenocorticotropic hormone
Adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH), also known as corticotropin, is a polypeptide tropic hormone produced and secreted by the anterior pituitary gland. It is an important component of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis and is often produced in response to biological stress (along with corticotropin-releasing hormone from the hypothalamus). Its principal effects are increased production and release of corticosteroids. A deficiency of ACTH is a cause of secondary adrenal insufficiency and an excess of it is a cause of Cushing’s syndrome.

Adrenocorticotropin
Adrenocorticotropin, auch Adrenocorticotropes Hormon (kurz ACTH), ist ein Peptidhormon. Es wird unter Einfluss des Corticotropin-releasing Hormons (CRH) in den basophilen Zellen des Hypophysenvorderlappens aus der Vorstufe des Proopiomelanocortins (POMC) gebildet. Aufgrund der limitierten Proteolyse entsteht aus dem Proopiomelanocortin nicht nur ACTH, sondern zusätzlich Lipotropin oder anstelle von ACTH und Lipotropin kann das Melanozyten-stimulierende Hormon (MSH) und ein Endorphin entstehen. Von dem aus 39 Aminosäuren bestehenden ACTH-Peptid sind nur die ersten 24 Aminosäuren physiologisch wichtig.

Hormone corticotrope
L'hormone corticotrope ou ACTH (Adreno CorticoTropic Hormone) est une hormone polypeptidique, principalement sécrétée par les cellules basophiles du lobe antérieur de l'hypophyse et qui stimule la glande corticosurrénale. Elle est le produit de maturation d'une pro-hormone, la POMC (pro-opiomélanocortine).

Hormon adrenokortykotropowy
Hormon adrenokortykotropowy, w skrócie ACTH, znany także jako kortykotropina, to hormon przysadki mózgowej, który pobudza korę nadnerczy do wydzielania kortyzolu i wielu słabo działających androgenów.
ACTH jest zbudowany z pojedynczego łańcucha polipeptydowego (hormon peptydowy) zawierającego 39 aminokwasów. Aktywność biologiczna jest zależna od 20 N-końcowych aminokwasów ACTH. ACTH syntetyzowany jest przez komórki przedniego płata przysadki mózgowej w odpowiedzi na wzrost poziomu CRH we krwi - jest to najważniejszy czynnik pobudzający uwalnianie ACTH. Hamowanie wydzielania ACTH i CRH następuje pod wpływem wzrostu we krwi stężenia ACTH, kortyzolu i innych kortykosteroidów, włączając w to steroidy egzogenne, na zasadzie sprzężenia zwrotnego.
