acupuncture point

Acupuncture points (, also called acupoints ( or Japanese: つぼ tsubo) are locations on the body that are the focus of acupuncture, acupressure, sonopuncture, and laser acupuncture treatments. There are several hundred acupuncture points that are distributed along meridians (connected points across the body which affect a specific organ or other part of a person) as well as numerous other "extra points" that are not associated with a particular meridian.

腧穴，又称穴位，是人体脏腑经络之气输注出入的特殊部位，既是疾病的反应点，又是针灸临床的刺激点。腧有輸注的涵義，指經氣的轉輸如同水流的轉輸灌注；穴有孔隙的意思，指經氣所居留之處在筋骨肌肉的空隙間。腧穴在《黃帝內經》中又稱節、會、氣穴、骨空，《針灸甲乙經》稱孔穴，《太平聖惠方》稱穴道，亦有稱穴位。人體五臟六腑的「正經」經絡有12條，加上身體正面中央的「任脈」、背面中央的「督脈」各有一條特殊經絡。這14條經絡上所排列著的人體穴道，稱為「正穴」，全部共有365處。但還有很多隱敝、偏僻的穴道，如果連這些都算在內，人體總穴道數目一定不只365個。医者用针来聚气通经，用针来泻脏腑邪气，用针来调理阴阳表里脏腑之气，以有余补不足。医者也用灸来补阳平阴。医者也以药归经，调理脏腑阴阳。
