Acupuncture (from Lat. acus, "needle" (noun), and pungere, "prick" (verb)) or in Standard Mandarin, zhēn jiǔ (lit: needle - moxibustion) is a technique of inserting and manipulating needles into "acupuncture points" on the body with the aim of restoring health and well-being, e.g. treating pain and diseases. Acupuncture is thought to have originated in China and is most commonly associated with Traditional Chinese medicine ([TCM]TCM ARTICLES). Different types of acupuncture (Classical Chinese, Japanese, and Korean acupuncture) are practiced and taught throughout the world.

Akupunktura (z łac. acus – igła, punctura – (u)kłucie) – technika leczenia wywodząca się ze Wschodu (Chiny, Japonia, Mongolia). Jest obecnie uznawana w wielu krajach jako uzupełnienie medycyny konwencjonalnej, chociaż jej skuteczność jest przedmiotem debat i trwających badań klinicznych.Akupunktura służy do redukowania bólu oraz utrzymania lub przywrócenia równowagi energetycznej organizmu, będącej warunkiem jego sprawnego funkcjonowania.Technika ta polega na nakłuwaniu ciała srebrnymi lub złotymi igłami w odpowiednich punktach, odpowiadających za największą aktywność narządów wewnętrznych. Punkty te zlokalizowane są wzdłuż tzw. meridianów (linii energetycznych), zgodnie z koncepcją wyrównywania potencjału energetycznego organizmu.

L'Agopuntura (針灸 zhēn jiǔ in cinese mandarino) è una tecnica terapeutica, che si prefigge di promuovere la salute ed il benessere, mediante l'inserimento di aghi in particolari punti del corpo, eseguita da personale appositamente preparato.In Cina la pratica dell'agopuntura viene segnalata fin dal III millennio a.C., e reperti archeologici relativi sono stati datati nella dinastia Han, (dal 202 a.C. al 220 d.C.). La pratica si diffuse secoli fa in molte parti dell'Asia; attualmente è una componente della medicina tradizionale cinese ed alcune sue forme sono anche descritte nella letteratura della medicina tradizionale coreana, nella quale viene chiamata yakchim, come pure in India.
