An actor, actress, or player (see terminology) is a person who acts in a dramatic production and who works in film, television, theatre, or radio in that capacity. The ancient Greek word for an actor, hypokrites, when rendered as a verb means "to interpret"; in this sense, an actor is one who interprets a dramatic character.

Un acteur (au féminin : une actrice) est un artiste qui incarne un personnage dans un film, dans une pièce de théâtre, à la télévision, à la radio, ou même dans des spectacles de rue. En plus de l'interprétation proprement dite, un acteur (ou « interprète ») peut aussi danser ou chanter, selon les besoins de son rôle.

Als Schauspieler bezeichnet man Personen, die mit den Mitteln der Sprache, der Mimik und Gestik/Pantomimik etwas anderes als sich selbst – in der Regel eine andere Person – leibhaftig verkörpern. Im Alltagsverständnis werden meist solche Personen als Schauspieler aufgefasst, die der schauspielerischen Tätigkeit regelmäßig (beruflich oder als Hobby), in einem bestimmten institutionellen Rahmen (nämlich in einem Theater oder vor einer Kamera), mit einem künstlerischen Anspruch sowie auf der Grundlage ausgiebiger Übung oder sogar einer speziellen Ausbildung nachgehen und sich dabei nach einer vorgeschriebenen Anweisung (Rolle, Drama, Drehbuch) richten. Doch sind alle diese Zusatzbedeutungen des alltäglichen Verständnisses keineswegs zwingend.

Un attore è una persona che interpreta un ruolo in una produzione artistica. Il termine viene utilizzato comunemente in riferimento a quanti lavorano in un film, in televisione, nel teatro o alla radio, in alcuni casi può indicare anche un artista di strada. Oltre ad interpretare ruoli drammatici, gli attori possono anche cantare o ballare, mentre se lavorano alla radio, spesso ci si riferisce a loro con il termine voci. Il termine al femminile è attrice.
