Acidosis is an increased acidity in the blood and other body tissue (i.e., an increased hydrogen ion concentration). If not further qualified, it usually refers to acidity of the blood plasma.

L'acidose est un trouble de l'équilibre acidobasique, désignant un état pathologique dû à une augmentation de l'acidité du sang dont le pH devient inférieur à la normale, c'est-à-dire inférieur à 7,35 - 7,45. Cet état correspond à une concentration élevée en ions hydrogène (H+) dans le sang.

Acidos eller syraförgiftning är inom medicin beteckningen på tillståndet då det arteriella blodets pH-värde sjunker under 7,35. Då pH istället överstiger 7,45 benämns tillståndet alkalos.
