Acharnae
For the modern suburb of Athens see Acharnes. Acharnae was the largest deme of ancient Attica; it was located in the northwest part of the Attic plain, south of Mt. Parnes in the general viscinity of the modern suburbs of Acharnes and Ano Liosia, about 10 km due north of Athens. The Acharnians chiefly grew cerealsgrapes, and olives, although Aristophanes in his comedy The Acharnians caricatures them as charcoal-burners. Pindar characterizes them as notably brave.

Acharnes
Acharnes (Greek: Αχαρνές, Ancient/Katharevousa: Αχαρναί) is a suburb of Athens also known as Menidi (Μενίδι). Much of the area north of the area are the forested Parnitha ranges and the parkland. The municipality is north of the Megali Daktylo or the Large Fingernail. In ancient times when it was the deme Acharnae, many of its residents were charcoal peddlers, a fact which is put to comic use by Aristophanes in his play The Acharnians. Today it is a working-class neighborhood. It is located about 10 km due north of Athens.Acharnai has schools, a lyceum, a gymnasium, banks, a post office and squares.
