Absinthe ( or ; French: ) is historically described as a distilled, highly alcoholic (45–74% ABV / 90-148 proof) beverage. It is an anise-flavoured spirit derived from botanicals, including the flowers and leaves of Artemisia absinthium (a.k.a. "grand wormwood"), together with green anise, sweet fennel, and other medicinal and culinary herbs. Absinthe traditionally has a natural green colour but may also be colourless. It is commonly referred to in historical literature as "la fée verte" (the green fairy). Although it is sometimes mistakenly referred to as a liqueur, absinthe is not traditionally bottled with added sugar, and is therefore classified as a spirit. Absinthe is traditionally bottled at a high level of alcohol by volume, but is normally diluted with water prior to being consumed.

Absinth, auch Absinthe oder Wermutspirituose genannt, ist ein alkoholisches Getränk, das traditionell aus Wermut, Anis, Fenchel sowie einer je nach Rezeptur unterschiedlichen Reihe weiterer Kräuter hergestellt wird. Bei einer sehr großen Anzahl von Absinthmarken ist die Spirituose von grüner Farbe. Deswegen wird Absinth gelegentlich auch „die grüne Fee“ (französisch: la Fée Verte) genannt. Der Alkoholgehalt liegt üblicherweise etwa zwischen 45 und 85 Volumen-Prozent und ist demnach dem oberen Bereich der Spirituosen zuzuordnen. Aufgrund der Verwendung bitter schmeckender Kräuter, insbesondere von Wermut, gilt Absinth als Bitterspirituose, obwohl er selbst nicht notwendigerweise bitter schmeckt.

Les spiritueux aux plantes d'absinthe sont un ensemble de spiritueux, couramment appelées simplement « absinthe », « fée verte » ou encore « la bleue ». Une bonne absinthe est légèrement amère et rafraîchissante, avec des notes épicées et florales qui font penser à la senteur d'un pré alpin, sans qu'aucune herbe n'étouffe les autres, ni dans le nez, ni dans la bouche.

Absint är en osötad, alkoholstark  spritdryck, ofta med en svagt gulgrönaktig nyans. Även svart, röd, blå och genomskinlig absint förekommer. Absint används främst som aperitif och hade sin storhetstid i slutet på 1800-talet och början på 1900-talet. Dryckens nutida popularitet har följt i kölvattnet på den nu några år gamla en för sekelskiftet 1900. Filmer som Moulin Rouge! och From Hell från 2001 har gjort att efterfrågan på absint stigit enormt de senaste åren runt om i världen, även om det redan kunde märkas på 1990-talet med dess identifikation med och romantisering av fin-de-siècle.

Absintti on väkevä alkoholijuoma, jota valmistetaan rypäle- tai viljaperäisestä alkoholista ja tietyistä yrteistä, joista tärkeimmät ovat anis, fenkoli ja koiruoho (Artemisia absinthium). Absintti keksittiin Couvet'ssa Preussissa (nyk. Sveitsiä), lähellä Ranskan rajaa. Tarinan mukaan keksijä oli ranskalainen tohtori Pierre Ordinaire.
