absente

Absente is a brand name of 110 proof pastis liqueur. Although marketed as "Absinthe refined" it contains no grande wormwood (Artemisia absinthium) but instead uses southern wormwood (Artemisia abrotanum) and is closer in form to pastis and not absinthe. Southern wormwood's constituents are different from grande wormwood. The supposed decreased thujone content allows Absente to be sold in the U.S. It is particularly popular in the French Quarter of New Orleans.
