Avortement
L'avortement se définit comme l'interruption avant son terme du processus de gestation, c'est-à-dire le développement qui commence à la conception par la fécondation d'un ovule par un spermatozoïde formant ainsi un œuf, se poursuit par la croissance de l'embryon, puis du fœtus, et qui s'achève normalement à terme par la naissance d'un nouvel individu de l'espèce.

Aborcja
Aborcja (od łac. abortio – poronienie) – termin potoczny oznaczający dokonanie sztucznego przerwania ciąży.
Aborcja to zabieg usuwający zarodek lub płód z macicy po zagnieżdżeniu. Środki wczesnoporonne, używane po stosunku (do 72 godzin), zapobiegają uwolnieniu komórek jajowych z jajników lub zapobiegają zapłodnieniu. Stosowane później zapobiegają zagnieżdżeniu się zarodka.
Samoistne przedwczesne zakończenie ciąży nazywane jest poronieniem (jeśli ma miejsce do 22 tygodnia ciąży) lub porodem przedwczesnym (jeśli ma miejsce po 22 tygodniu ciąży). W języku polskim nie używa się słowa aborcja w znaczeniu poronienie samoistne.

Aborto
L'aborto è l'interruzione prematura di una gravidanza. Questa può avvenire per cause naturali (aborto spontaneo) o essere provocata artificialmente (aborto provocato o interruzione volontaria della gravidanza). Si è stabilito, in Italia, come aborto un'interruzione della gravidanza che si verifichi entro il 180° giorno dal concepimento, mentre si parla di parto prematuro o nascita pretermine nel caso di un parto che si verifichi prima della 37a settimana di gestazione compiuta.

Abortus
Abortus (Arte) Provocatus , of ook wel ""Abortus Provocatus Lege Artis"" of opzettelijke vruchtafdrijving is de medische term voor het voortijdig afbreken van een zwangerschap door (medisch) ingrijpen. In het Nederlands wordt meestal de term abortus gebruikt voor deze handeling.
Het woord abortus betekent echter alleen voortijdige geboorte of miskraam. Een miskraam wordt door medici dan ook wel aangeduid als een "spontane abortus".
Het verhinderen van de innesteling van een bevruchte eicel door het innemen van de morning afterpil wordt door sommigen ook beschouwd als een vorm van abortus provocatus, maar dit onderwerp wordt op deze pagina niet verder beschreven.
