Ablaq
Ablaq (; particolored) is a term used to characterize alternating or fluctuating rows of light and dark color schemes of any medium. It is associated as an Arabic term, especially as related to Arabic Islamic architectural decoration. It has been used since the twelfth century in stonework techniques. The first recorded use of the term "ablaq" pertained to repairs of the Great Mosque of Damascus in 1109.
