abjad

Abjad is a term suggested by Peter T. Daniels  to replace the common terms consonantary or consonantal alphabet or syllabary to refer to the family of scripts called West Semitic, a type of writing system in which each symbol stands for a consonant; the reader must supply the appropriate vowel. Some linguists consider West Semitic writing a type of alphabet, while others classify it as a separate writing system, while others view it as an unusual sort of syllabary. In popular usage, abjads often contain the word "alphabet" in their names, such as "Phoenician alphabet" and "Arabic alphabet."

Un abjad, ou alphabet consonantique, est un alphabet ne notant que des consonnes (ou notant principalement les consonnes), comme en arabe ou en hébreu. Le terme provient des premières lettres de l'alphabet arabe historique (et non de sa version actuelle), soit ʾalif, bāʾ, ǧīm et dāl .

Das Abdschad (auch: abjad) nach den ersten vier Buchstaben, war die ältere Form des arabischen Alphabets, die sich noch an der Reihenfolge im phönizischen Alphabet und hebräischen Alefbet orientierte. Diese Buchstaben haben Zahlwerte, die z.B. in der Zahlenmystik eingesetzt werden. Dazu werden die Buchstaben in acht Wörtern angeordnet, deren erstes – abdschad (ابجد) – auch die Bedeutung Alphabet hat:ابجد – abdschad: 1–2–3–4هوز – hawwaz: 5–6–7حطي – hutti: 8–9–10كلمن – kalaman: 20–30–40–50سعفص – sa'fas: 60–70–80–90قرشت – qaraschat: 100–200–300–400ثخذ – thachidh: 500–600–700ضظغ – dazagh: 800–900–1000

Unter Konsonantenschriften oder Konsonantentext versteht man eine Schrift, die nur mit Konsonanten geschrieben wird, unter Weglassung der Vokale. Der Text wird dadurch schwerer lesbar und ist stellenweise wegen der abweichenden Vokalisierungen nicht mehr eindeutig.Die Konsonantenschrift wird vor allem zur Schreibung semitischer Sprachen verwendet. In neuerer Zeit ist der von Peter T. Daniels geprägte Begriff Abdschaden oder Abdschad-Alphabete gebräuchlich geworden. Der Ausdruck stammt von den ehemals ersten vier Buchstaben des arabischen Alphabets: Alif, Bāʾ, Dschīm, Dāl (die heute übliche Sortierung des Arabischen ist anders).

Abdżad inaczej pismo spółgłoskowe - ogólna nazwa pism alfabetycznych stosowanych do zapisu niektórych języków, posiadających lub stosujących tylko znaki na oznaczenie spółgłosek. Niektóre języki używają abdżadów niepełnych, tzn. samogłoski oznacza się w nich za pomocą specjalnych znaków diakrytycznych lub oznacza się tylko samogłoski długie. Przykładami są tu pismo arabskie i pismo hebrajskie. Terminu abdżad użył po raz pierwszy Peter T. Daniels w swoim monumentalnym dziele World's Writing Systems.

Un abjad, o alfabeto consonantico, designa nella tradizione musulmana un alfabeto che indichi solo le consonanti (o comunque che indichi principalmente le consonanti), come in arabo, in ebraico e aramaico.Il nome "abjad" deriva dalle prima lettere dell'alfabeto arabo storico (e non nella sua versione attuale che classifica le lettere raggruppandole in base alla loro forma grafica): ʾalif, bāʼ, ǧīm e dāl, dal cui acrostico, appunto, abjad (أﺑﺠﺪ).
