An alphabet is a standardized set of letters basic written symbols or graphemes  each of which roughly represents a phoneme in a spoken language, either as it exists now or as it was in the past. There are other systems, such as logographies, in which each character represents a word, morpheme, or semantic unit, and syllabaries, in which each character represents a syllable. Alphabets are classified according to how they indicate vowels:

• the same way as consonants, as in Greek (true alphabet)
• diacritics or modification of consonants, as in Hindi (Devanāgarī: हिन्दी ) (abugida)
• not at all, as in Phoenician (abjad)

The Latin alphabet, also called the Roman alphabet, is the most widely used alphabetic writing system in the world today. It evolved from the western variety of the Greek alphabet called the Cumaean alphabet, which was borrowed and modified by the Etruscans who ruled early Rome, whose alphabet was then adapted and further modified by the ancient Romans to write the Latin language.

ABC are the first three letters of the Latin alphabet. They may refer to:

• American Broadcasting Company, a private US broadcaster
  • ABC Radio, an American radio network, currently owned by Citadel Broadcasting and formerly owned by the American Broadcasting Company
• Australian Broadcasting Corporation, national publicly funded broadcaster of Australia

Ein Alphabet (über altgriechisch ἀλφάβητος alphábētos) ist eine Menge von Zeichen zur schriftlichen Darstellung von Wörtern einer Sprache. Der Name Alphabet geht auf die ersten beiden Buchstaben des griechischen Schriftsystems zurück (Alpha – α, Beta – β). Analog dazu sagt man im Deutschen A-B-C. Die festgelegte Reihenfolge erlaubt alphabetische Anordnungen wie beispielsweise in Wörterbüchern.

Das lateinische Alphabet (auch römisches Alphabet genannt, spätlateinisch: abecedarium) wurde von der lateinischen Sprache auf viele romanische, germanische, slawische, finno-ugrische und weitere Sprachen übertragen und ist das am weitesten verbreitete Alphabet der Welt.

Un alphabet (de alpha et bêta, les deux premières lettres de l’alphabet grec) est un ensemble ordonné de symboles  destiné à représenter plus ou moins précisément les phonèmes d’une langue.

L'alphabet latin est l'alphabet qu'on utilise majoritairement pour écrire les langues d'Europe occidentale ainsi que dans certains des pays qui ont été colonisés par les Européens. C'est, en concurrence avec l'alphabet cyrillique et, dans une bien moindre part, l'alphabet grec, l'écriture occidentale par défaut et maintenant – en raison de l'importance économique et culturelle de pays l'utilisant (comme les États-Unis) une écriture internationale : on peut trouver des mots écrits en lettres latines dans les rues du Japon comme dans celles d'Égypte. L'alphabet latin est également le seul utilisé à ce jour pour noter les adresses de sites internet (URL) et de courriel, en attendant une généralisation effective de l'unicode au moins pour les URL.

Det latinska alfabetet är ett alfabet som har spridits från latin till många andra språk, och som har blivit världens vanligaste alfabet.

Alfabet (nazwa pochodzi od pierwszych liter alfabetu greckiego: alfa i beta) - najpopularniejszy system zapisywania mowy. Terminu używany w trzech głównych, powiązanych ze sobą i niekiedy mylonych znaczeniach, co jest źródłem licznych nieporozumień w dziedzinie historii i teorii pisma, oraz w jednym znaczeniu pochodnym.

Alfabet łaciński (łacinka), tzw. alfabet rzymski – alfabet, system znaków służących do zapisu większości języków europejskich oraz wielu innych. Jest najbardziej rozpowszechnionym alfabetem na świecie – posługuje się nim ok. 35% ludzkości. Wywodzi się z systemu służącego do zapisu łaciny. Alfabet łaciński wywodzi się z alfabetu etruskiego, początkowo składał się z 21 znaków:
