Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe (IPA: ), officially the Republic of Zimbabwe, and formerly Southern Rhodesia, the Republic of Rhodesia and Zimbabwe Rhodesia, is a landlocked country in the southern part of the continent of Africa, between the Zambezi and Limpopo rivers. It borders South Africa to the south, Botswana to the southwest, Zambia to the northwest, and Mozambique to the east. The name Zimbabwe derives from "Zimba Remabwe" meaning "big house of stone" in the Shona language. Its use as the country's name is a tribute to Great Zimbabwe, site of the capital of the Empire of Great Zimbabwe. The official language of Zimbabwe is English, however the majority of the population speaks Shona, one of the native languages of Zimbabwe.

Simbabwe [] (englisch: Zimbabwe []; übersetzt: „Steinhäuser“ in der Sprache der Shona), das ehemalige Rhodesien beziehungsweise Südrhodesien, ist eine Republik im südlichen Afrika. Der Name Simbabwe geht auf die heute Great Zimbabwe genannte Ruinenstätte zurück, die größten vorkolonialen Steinbauten im südlichen Afrika. Das Wort Rhodesien leitete sich vom Namen des Kolonialisten Cecil Rhodes her. Nationalfeiertag ist der 18. April. Das Land wird von Robert Mugabe diktatorisch regiert.

La sua popolazione è di 12.576.742 abitanti, e ha una superficie di 390.580 chilometri quadrati; la capitale è Harare, in epoca coloniale nota come Salisbury. La lingua ufficiale è l'inglese, ma una parte non trascurabile della popolazione parla correntemente lingue bantu; l'etnia bantu comprende infatti la massima parte degli zimbabwesi.
