The Zilog Z80 is an 8-bit microprocessor designed by Zilog and sold from July 1976 onwards. It was widely used both in desktop and embedded computer designs as well as for military purposes. The Z80 and its derivatives and clones make up one of the most commonly used CPU families of all time, and, along with the MOS Technology 6502 family, dominated the 8-bit microcomputer market from the late 1970s to the mid-1980s.

Der Zilog Z80 (manchmal auch „Z-80“) ist ein 8-Bit-Mikroprozessor, der von der Firma Zilog Inc. entwickelt wurde. In CMOS-Technologie ist der Z80 bis heute lieferbar.

Le Zilog Z80 est un microprocesseur 8-bits conçu et fabriqué par Zilog. Une des particularités de ce processeur est le couplage de certains registres (2 fois 8 bits) et le bus d'adresses 16 bits, permettant un traitement de l'information nettement plus rapide qu'avec un processeur 8 bits classique.

Zilog Z80 är en CPU från Zilog. Processorn kom till efter att framförallt Federico Faggin och Masatoshi Shima 1974 sagt upp sig från Intel och grundat Zilog. Processorn lanserades i juli 1976 och var då binärkompatibel med Intels 8080, men hade även en del utökade instruktioner och andra förbättringar.

Mikroprocesor Z80 powstał na fali entuzjazmu wywołanego przez mikroprocesor Intel 8080. Wtedy to grupa pracowników Intela odeszła od firmy, by założyć własne przedsiębiorstwo o nazwie Zilog. W nowej firmie opracowano projekt mikroprocesora opartego na Intel 8080. Nowy układ o nazwie Z80 wszedł do sprzedaży w lipcu 1976 roku i natychmiast szturmem zdobył rynek.
