Ziege is one of the finest exponents of the left wing-back role in the game. Strong defensively, he raids effectively down the right wing, and has now reclaimed his place in the German national side. Born in Berlin, Ziege made his name at FC Bayern München where he won two German Championships and the UEFA Cup in his seven years with the club. First capped by the German national side against Brazil in 1993, Ziege missed the 1994 World Cup finals due to a serious ankle injury. In the Summer of 1997 Ziege moved to Milan AC but he suffered from injuries and a loss of form. Now rejuvenated by his move last summer to Middlesbrough FC, Ziege’s second coming in the national team has been sensational. He scored a hat-trick against Northern Ireland in only his second game back.
