Zhong Kui
Zhong kui
[Chinese] The Chinese Taoist god of the afterlife, and a god of exorcism. His Japanese equivalent is Shoki.
Zhong-kui
[Chinese] In Chinese myth, he is the god of literature and examinations, the protector against evil spirits and demons. He belongs to the Gui Xian (a classification of demons) because he committed suicide when he failed to reach the first place in the exams. His attribute is a sword with which he wards off poisonous animals such as snakes and scorpions.
