Zanzibar

Zanzibar is the name for an archipelago in the Indian Ocean 25–50 km off the coast of East Africa, which is part of Tanzania. The archipelago consists of numerous small islands and two large ones: Unguja (the main island, sometimes informally referred to as 'Zanzibar'), and Pemba Island. The archipelago was once the separate state of Zanzibar, which united with Tanganyika to form Tanzania (derived from the two names), and still enjoys a high degree of autonomy within the union. The capital of Zanzibar, located on the island of Unguja, is Zanzibar City. The city's old quarter, known as Stone Town, is a World Heritage Site.

Sansibar [] (auch Zanzibar; pers.: زنگبار; Bedeutung wahrscheinlich „Küste der Schwarzen“, vgl. Zandsch) ist eine Inselgruppe vor der Ostküste Afrikas. Sie besteht aus der Hauptinsel Unguja (Suaheli: sprich: Unguudscha), welche von Europäern meist fälschlich Sansibar genannt wird, und der weiter nördlich gelegenen Insel Pemba. Unguja hat eine Größe von 1.658 km² und  Pemba eine Größe von 984 km².

Zanzibar - wyspa na Oceanie Indyjskim. Należy do Tanzanii (podmiot federacji). Powierzchnia 1658 km². Liczne plantacje goździkowca i palmy kokosowej. Stolica wyspy, a zarazem największy port: Zanzibar. W X wieku został skolonizowany przez Arabów i Persów. Od XVI do XVII wieku należał do Portugalii, później znów przeszedł pod władzę arabską. W XIX wieku Wielka Brytania przejęła kontrolę nad Zanzibarem, ale formalnie dalej panowali miejscowi sułtanowie. W celu zaspokojenia niemieckich roszczeń do wyspy (Niemcy opanowali w tym czasie Tanganikę) Zjednoczone Królestwo oddało Niemcom wyspę Helgoland na Morzu Północnym oraz region Caprivi.

Zanzibar è il nome di un arcipelago situato nell'Oceano Indiano, 25-50 km al largo della costa della Tanzania. Il nome "Zanzibar" viene spesso usato per riferirsi alla principale isola dell'arcipelago, detta anche Unguja (800.000 abitanti secondo una stima del 1994, 1.554 km² di superficie). La seconda isola per estensione è Pemba; seguono un certo numero di isolotti minori. L'arcipelago appartiene, assieme all'isola di Mafia, alle cosiddette spice islands (isole delle spezie).
