Zope is an open-source, object-oriented web application server written in Python programming language. Zope stands for "Z Object Publishing Environment." It can be almost fully managed with a web-based user interface. Zope publishes on the web Python objects that are typically persisted in an object database, ZODB. Basic object types, such as documents, images, and page templates, are available for the user to create and manage through the web. Specialized object types, such as wikis, blogs, and photo galleries, are available as third-party add-ons (called products), and there is a thriving community of small businesses creating custom web applications as Zope products.

Zope est un serveur d'application web orienté objet libre écrit dans le langage de programmation Python. Il peut être entièrement géré à partir d'une interface Web. Zope publie sur le réseau des objets Python qui sont enregistrés dans une base de données objet, ZODB. Des types d'objets basiques, tels que des documents, des images, des patrons (templates) de page, sont à la disposition des utilisateurs pour être créés et gérés via l'internet. Zope (Z Object Publishing Environment) ist ein objektorientierter, in der Programmiersprache Python geschriebener, kostenloser Webanwendungs-Server mit  offenem Quellcode (siehe Application Server). Zope stellt eine Plattform für die Realisierung von Webanwendungen dar und eignet sich sehr gut zum Erstellen von dynamischen Webauftritten, da es prinzipiell darauf ausgerichtet ist, den Inhalt von der Gestaltung der Website zu trennen. Teile des Quellcodes von Zope wurden 1996 Open Source, die gesamte Applikation folgte 1998.

Zope è una piattaforma che permette a sviluppatori con differenti livelli di competenza di costruire applicazioni web. Piattaforme di questo tipo sono spesso chiamate server per applicazioni web, o a volte solamente server per applicazioni. Zope è quindi un server per applicazioni web, così come prodotti concorrenti come BEA WebLogic, Macromedia ColdFusion e (in alcune estensioni) Vignette StoryServer.
