Nu people
The Nu people are one of the
56 ethnic groups officially recognized by the
People's Republic of China. Their population of 27,000 is divided into the Northern, Central and Southern groups. Their homeland is a country of high mountains and deep ravines crossed by the Lancang, Dulong and Nujiang rivers, and this area is rich in natural minerals. The name "Nu" comes from the fact that they were living near the Nujiang river, and the name of their ethnic group derives from there. (Nujiang is also called Nu river or or
Salween River.)

Yunnan, überwiegend im Autonomen Bezirk
Nujiang der
Lisu leben. Weitere 1,42
er Nu leben im Autonomen Gebiet
Tibet.Die Nu in den Kreisen Lushui und Fugong machen die Hälfte der Nu-Bevölkerung aus und sprechen Nusu (怒苏语), eine kleinere Gruppe von ca. 8,3% in den Kreisen Lanping und Lushui spricht Zauzou (柔若语). Nusu und Zauzou gehören beide zu den
Yi-Sprachen. Etwa 30,6
er Nu, vor allem im Autonomen Kreis Gongshan, sprechen
Derung (独龙语), weitere 11,1% in Fugong und Gongshan das noch weitgehend unklassifizierte tibetobirmanische Ayi (阿夷语 oder 阿侬语). Hinzu kommen etwa 400 Nu in Fugong, die Nung sprechen. Nung und Derung gehören zu den
nungischen Sprachen.

República Popular China. Se dividen en tres grupos: los del norte, centrales y los del sur. El nombre "nu" proviene de su localización geográfica, cercana al río Nujiang. La mayoría de los nu viven en la provincia de
Yunnan aunque también se encuentran grupos en el
Tíbet.
