Z, z is a letter in the Polish, Kashubian and  Maltese alphabets.

Z (minuscule: ) is a letter of the Latin alphabet, formed from Z with the addition of an acute. It is used in Belarusian Lacinka, Polish and Lower Sorbian, as well as in phonetic transcription to represent a voiced alveolo-palatal fricative (: ).

Z (named zed or zee ) is the twenty-sixth and final letter of the ISO basic Latin alphabet.

Compress is a Unix shell compression program based on the LZC compression method, which is an LZW implementation using variable size pointers as in LZ78.

In computing, is a control character in ASCII code, also known as the substitute (SUB) character or a keyboard shortcut. Strictly speaking, is not a printable character at all but a code for control purposes, though it is sometimes rendered by two characters as ^Z. It is generated by pressing the key while holding down the key on a computer keyboard. The equivalent Mac OS and Mac OS X key combination on Apple computers is .

The dram (archaic spelling drachm; apothecary symbol Z) was historically both a coin and a weight. It refers both to a unit of mass in the Apothecaries' system of weights and a unit of volume in the imperial system. The latter unit is more correctly called a fluid dram or, in contraction, fluidram.

In non-standard analysis, a hyperinteger N is a hyperreal number equal to its own integer part. A hyperinteger may be either finite or infinite. A finite hyperinteger is an ordinary integer. An example of an infinite hyperinteger is given by the class of the sequence (1,2,3,...) in the ultrapower construction of the hyperreals.

The integers (from the Latin integer, literally "untouched," hence "whole": the word entire comes from the same origin, but via French) are formed by the natural numbers (including 0) (0, 1, 2, 3, ...) together with the negatives of the non-zero natural numbers (-1, -2, -3, ...). Das Z (Minuskel: z), ein z mit dem Diakritikon ´, ist ein polnisches Zeichen für den stimmhaften alveolopalatalen Frikativ. Nicht zu verwechseln ist das z mit dem z, dem stimmhaften retroflexen Frikativ.

compress ist ein historisches Packprogramm unter UNIX-ähnlichen Betriebssystemen. Die erzeugten Dateien nutzen die Dateinamenserweiterung .Z und werden von dem zugehörigen Programmgegenstück uncompress wieder entpackt.

Der Zirkel ist ein Erkennungszeichen einer Studentenverbindung. Er ist eine Verschlingung von meist in einem Zuge geschriebenen Anfangsbuchstaben des Verbindungsnamens und eines Leitspruchs. Dieser Leitspruch ist nicht immer mit dem Wahlspruch der Verbindung gleichzusetzen. Zirkel bürgerten sich um 1780 zunächst bei den Orden und Corps ein. Früher war es auch an manchen Hochschulen üblich, Zirkel zu verwenden, die aus den Anfangsbuchstaben des Hochschulnamens gebildet waren, so zum Beispiel F und A für Friderico-Alexandrina (Erlangen), G und A für Georgia-Augusta (Göttingen) sowie R und C für Ruperto-Carola (Heidelberg).

Le logiciel compress est un utilitaire de compression de données sans perte basé sur l'algorithme de Lempel et Ziv de 1978 LZ78 et disponible sur les systèmes UNIX et GNU/Linux. Le nom des fichiers générés par cet utilitaire se terminent en général par ".Z" (en majuscule). Ce format, associé avec tar, était considéré comme un standard de fait. L'extension étant alors ".tar.Z" sous un système de type Unix ou ".TAZ" sous DOS.

En mathématiques, un entier relatif est un nombre entier (c'est-à-dire sans partie fractionnaire) et muni d'un signe positif () ou négatif (). L'ensemble des entiers relatifs est composé des entiers naturels 0, 1, 2, ... dits entiers relatifs positifs et de leurs opposés 0, -1, -2, -3, ... appelés entiers relatifs négatifs.

Le point suscrit ou point en chef est un diacritique de l'alphabet latin. Le signe est utilisé de manière non diacritique sur i et j. En turc, cependant, le point sur le i se comporte bien comme un diacritique. Z är den tjugosjätte bokstaven i det latinska alfabetet. Bokstaven är den sista i flera alfabet, såsom det engelska.

Ż jest trzydziestą drugą, a zarazem ostatnią literą alfabetu polskiego, gdzie może się pojawić również pod postacią Ƶ. Oznacza dźwięk [].

Z litera alfabetu pol. (i łac.) pochodząca przez gr. ζ (zeta, dzeta) od fenickiej (północno-zachodnio-semickiej) litery zaîn; oznacza spółgłoskę przedniojęzykowo-zębową, szczelinową, dźwięczną.
