Yhi
In
Australian Aboriginal mythology (specifically: Karraur), Yhi is a goddess of light and creation, and a
solar deity. She lived in the
Dream time and
slept until a whistle awakened her. When she opened her
eyes, light fell on the
Earth. She walked the earth and
plants grew where she walked. Soon the whole world was covered with foliage. She decided that, in addition to plants, she wanted to make something that could
dance. Searching for such an
organism, Yhi found evil spirits beneath the earth who tried to sing her to death. But her warmth chased away the darkness and
insects of all kinds were created from it. She brought them to Earth and then found some
ice caves in a
mountain. She shined her light on the being resting inside and
fishes and
lizards came out, along with many other kinds of
birds,
mammals and
amphibians. She then returned to her own world and blessed her creations with the change of the
seasons and promised that, when they died, they would join her in the sky. When she disappeared, darkness came back and covered the Earth. The organisms thought she was not returning and were sad, but then came the first
sunrise and Yhi returned.

mythologie aborigène, Yhi est la déesse de la lumière et de la création ; elle représente également le soleil. Elle dormait dans le
Temps du rêve jusqu'à ce qu'un sifflement la réveille. Quand elle ouvrit les yeux, la lumière descendit sur la
Terre. Elle marcha sur celle-ci, les plantes poussant là où elle posait les pieds. Rapidement, le monde entier fut recouvert de verdure. Elle voulu, en supplément des plantes, créer quelque chose qui puisse danser. Cherchant un tel organisme, Yhi trouva de mauvais esprits qui s'étaient réfugiés sous la Terre et qui tentèrent de la tuer. Mais sa lumière chassa l'obscurité et des insectes de toutes sortes furent créés à partir d'elle. Elle les amena sur Terre, puis y trouva des cavernes de glace dans une montagne. Elle illumina de sa lumière les esprits qui y reposaient, faisant ainsi sortir les
poissons et les
lézards ainsi que beaucoup d'espèces d'
oiseaux, de
mammifères et d'
amphibiens. Elle retourna ensuite dans son propre monde et protégea ses créations grâce au changement des saisons, leur promettant que qu'une fois qu'elles seraient mortes, elles la rejoindraient au ciel. Quand elle disparu, l'obscurité revint et recouvrit la Terre. Les créatures créées par Yhi étaient tristes à l'idée qu'elle ne reviendrait jamais. Mais vint alors le premier lever de soleil, et Yhi réapparu.
