Yasna (Avestan for 'oblation' or 'worship') is the name of the primary liturgical collection of texts of the Avesta as well as the name of the principal Zoroastrian act of worship at which those verses are recited. The Yasna, or Izeshne, is primarily the name of the ceremony in which the entire book is recited and appropriate liturgical actions performed. In its normal form, this ceremony can only be performed in the morning.

Begleitet durch rituelle Handlungen ist die Rezitierung dieser Liturgie auch die wichtigste religiöse Zeremonie der Zoroastrier.

De Perzen bezaten een rijke, godsdienstige literatuur, waarvan de Avesta een onderdeel is. Deze bundel boeken is bewaard gebleven in India, in de buurt van Bombay, waar de Parsi's wonen. De Avesta is pas in de derde eeuw van onze tijdrekening opgetekend. Voordien bestond er enkel een mondelinge overlevering, en de canonisatie van de tekst is pas in de vijfde of zesde eeuw afgerond. Het oudste bestandsdeel bestaat uit de gatha's, liederen die aan Zarathoestra zelf worden toegeschreven.
