In Hinduism, Yama or Yamarāja (यमराज) is the god of death, belonging to an early stratum of Vedic mythology. In the Vedas, Yama is said to have been the first mortal who died. By virtue of precedence, he became the ruler of the departed. There is a one-of-a-kind temple in Srivanchiyam, Tamil Nadu, India, dedicated to Yama.

Mobilian Jargon (also Mobilian trade language, Mobilian Trade Jargon, Chickasaw–Choctaw trade language, Yamá) was a pidgin used as a lingua franca among Native American groups living along the Gulf of Mexico around the time of European settlement of the region. The name refers to the Mobile Indians of the central Gulf Coast.

Il a de nombreuses épouses, les dix filles de Daksha, Dhûmornâ, une forme de Shrî, Hemamâlâ, Susdhilâ, Vijayâ et surtout sa sœur jumelle Yamî, sa shakti, qui après sa mort devient la déesse Yamunâ.

Jama - hinduistyczny Bóg Śmierci, Bóg zmarłych i władca piekła, Pan Dharmy , strażnik kierunku ( lokapala ) południowego. Według wedyjskiego mitu Jama był najstarszym synem Wiwaswata, słońca i pierwszym śmiertelnikiem który osiągnął świat niebiański ( w późniejszym hinduizmie jednak twierdzono, iż tym człowiekiem był Manu). Wiwaswat mianował Jamę królem zmarłych. W religii nie odgrywa większej roli, ma natomiast duże znaczenie mitologiczne .
