Yama

Yama (Sanskrit: यम), also known as Yamarāja (यमराज) in India, Yanluowang (閻羅王) or simply Yan (閻) in China, and Enma Dai-Ō in Japan, is the lord of death, first recorded in the Vedas. The name Yanluo is a shortened Chinese transliteration of the Sanskrit term Yama Rājā, or "King Yama". Enma Dai-Ō is a further transliteration, meaning "Great King Yama", where Enma means Yama, Enma-Ō means Yama Rājā and Enma Dai-Ō would be equivalent to Yama Mahārāja.

Mobilian Jargon (also Mobilian trade language, Mobilian Trade Jargon, Chickasaw-Choctaw trade language, Yamá) was a pidgin used as a lingua franca among Native American groups living along the Gulf of Mexico around the time of European settlement of the region. The name refers to the Mobile Indians of the central Gulf Coast.

Le premier être humain et donc le premier être à mourir, il est le fils de Vivasvat et de Saranyû, une des filles de Tvashtri, Yama est parfois considéré comme le frère de Manu. Il a de nombreuses épouses, les dix filles de Daksha, Dhûmornâ, une forme de Shrî, Hemamâlâ, Susdhilâ, Vijayâ et surtout sa sœur jumelle Yamî, sa shakti, qui après sa mort devient la déesse Yamunâ.

Yama (Sanskrit, m., यम yama, Enthaltung, Selbstkontrolle) ist die erste Stufe des Raja Yoga (bzw. Ashtanga Yoga oder Kriya Yoga) nach Patanjali und stellt eine Art Verhaltenskodex dar. Die weiteren sieben Stufen des Raja Yoga sind Niyama, Asana, Pranayama, Pratyahara, Dharana, Dhyana und Samadhi.Es werden insgesamt fünf Yamas beschrieben: Ahimsa, Satya, Asteya, Brahmacharya und Aprigraha. Sie sind Bestandteil des Sadharana Dharmas, allgemeine Verhaltensregeln der Hindus.

Yama (Sanskrit: यम, in Indien auch: Yamarāja (यमराज)) verkörpert den hinduistischen Gott des Todes und den „Dharmaraja“, den Herrn des Dharma, der Rechtschaffenheit. Für das Glaubensleben der Hindus spielt er kaum eine Rolle, die Mythologie dagegen kennt unzählige Geschichten, in denen er erscheint um sein Opfer zu holen.

Jama - hinduistyczny Bóg Śmierci, Bóg zmarłych i władca piekła, Pan Dharmy , strażnik kierunku ( lokapala ) południowego. Według wedyjskiego mitu Jama był najstarszym synem Wiwaswata, słońca i pierwszym śmiertelnikiem który osiągnął świat niebiański ( w późniejszym hinduizmie jednak twierdzono, iż tym człowiekiem był Manu). Wiwaswat mianował Jamę królem zmarłych. W religii nie odgrywa większej roli, ma natomiast duże znaczenie mitologiczne .

Presso la religione induista, Yama è il Deva della morte, la deità preposta al controllo e al trapasso delle anime da un mondo all'altro. Figlio di Surya (dio del Sole) e della dea Saranyu, viene chiamato anche Dharma (lett. Giustizia, poiché ha il compito di giudicare le destinazioni delle anime) e Kala (lett. Tempo, Yama è identificato con il tempo poiché è quest'ultimo a decretare il momento della morte).
