Their home is in the Amazon rainforest, among the hills that line the border between Brazil and Venezuela.The Yanomami or yanomamos are Native Americans of South America. Most of the information in this article describes a Yanomami way of life that existed prior to the 1960s. Sustained contact with government officials, the market system, miners, missionaries, journalists, anthropologists and others has led to significant changes to this way of life.

Les Yanomamis représentent un des peuples indigènes parmi les plus nombreux des forêts d’Amérique du Sud, à la fois au Brésil et au Venezuela. Ils constituent un ensemble linguistique et culturel divisé en quatre sous-groupes parlant des langues mutuellement intelligibles. Leur population est estimée à 27 000 personnes, dans laquelle les Yanomamis occidentaux représentent près de 50 % de l’ethnie. Bien que chaque communauté se considère comme autonome sur les plans politique et économique, elles entretiennent un vaste réseau social qui émaille de part en part tout le territoire Yanomami.

Die Yanomami (auch Yanomamö; in ihrer Sprache Menschen) leben im venezolanisch-brasilianischen Grenzgebiet an der 1000 m hohen Sierra Parima, der Wasserscheide zwischen den Flüssen Orinoco und Amazonas. Circa 19.000 Yanomami bewohnen eine Fläche von der Größe der Schweiz. Seit dem Eindringen von "Weißen" in den 70-er Jahren des 20. Jahrhunderts sind ihre dortigen Lebensgrundlagen gefährdet.

Janomamowie (ang. Yanomami, Yanomamö) – plemię indiańskie Ameryki Południowej, zamieszkujące Brazylię i Wenezuelę. Liczebność plemienia szacuje się na 20 tysięcy osób. Mniej więcej połowa spośród nich egzystuje na obrzeżach osiedli i misji religijnych, pozostali żyją w ok. 400 skupiskach w dżungli. Język Yanomami różni się od pozostałych narzeczy Amazonii. Istnieją przypuszczenia, że Yanomami mogą być potomkami pierwszych mieszkańców Ameryki Południowej.

I Yanomamö (o anche Yanomami) sono un gruppo etnico del Venezuela e del Brasile che ha una popolazione stimata in circa 11.486 individui. Parlano la lingua Yanomamo (codice ISO 639: GUU) e sono principalmente di fede animista.Vivono ai piedi dei monti Parima, ad est del fiume Batau, e nei pressi dei fiumi Padamo, Ocamo, Manaviche e Orinoco in Venezuela; gruppi sono presenti anche nello stato brasiliano di Amazonas, sugli affluenti del Rio Negro. Vivono in un ambiente di foresta tropicale. Sono coltivatori di tuberi, tabacco e banane. Denominazioni alternative: Yanomame, Yanomami, Guaica, Guaharibo, Guajaribo, Shamatari, Cobari Kobali, Cobariwa.
