Y chromosome
The Y chromosome is one of the two sex-determining chromosomes in most mammals, including humans. In mammals, it contains the gene SRY, which triggers testis development if present. The human Y chromosome is composed of about 50 million base pairs. DNA in the Y chromosome is passed from father to son, and Y-DNA analysis may thus be used in genealogy research. With a 30
ifference between humans and chimpanzees, the Y chromosome is one of the fastest evolving parts of the human genome.

Y-kromosom
Y-kromosomen är den manliga könskromosomen hos däggdjur och groddjur. Den är den minsta kromosomen i könscellen. En Y-kromosom och en X-kromosom leder normalt till att bäraren utvecklar manligt kön.

Chromosom Y
Obecność chromosomu Y wraz z chromosomem X w jądrze komórki determinuje u człowieka płeć męską. Jest to spowodowane obecnością genu SRY na chromosomie Y.
U człowieka chromosom Y składa się z 58 milionów par zasad (58 Mbp) i zawiera 78 genów, co odpowiada około 0,38% całkowitej ilości DNA w ludzkiej komórce. Większość sekwencji ludzkiego chromosomu Y jest specyficzna dla mężczyzn, i tylko niewielkie fragmenty (tzw. region pseudoautosomalny, ok. 3Mbp) ulegają rekombinacji z homologicznymi fragmentami na chromosomie X.
