The Xhosa (IPA ) people are speakers of Bantu languages living in south-east South Africa, and in the last two centuries throughout the southern and central-southern parts of the country.Xhosa-speaking peoples are divided into several subgroups with related but distinct heritages. The main subgroups are the Bhaca, Bomvana, Mfengu, Mpondo, Mpondomise, Xesibe, and Thembu [1]. The name "Xhosa" comes from that of a legendary leader called uXhosa. There is also a theory that the word xhosa derives from a word in some Khoi-khoi or San language meaning "fierce" or "angry", the amaXhosa being the fierce people. The amaXhosa refer to themselves as the amaXhosa and to their language as isiXhosa.

Le xhosa est un peuple et une langue d'Afrique australe. Cette langue compte pour la seule Afrique du Sud un peu plus de huit millions de locuteurs, soit environ 18% de la population, ce qui en fait la deuxième du pays après le zoulou.

Die Xhosa [] (isiXhosa: []) sind ein südafrikanisches Volk, das sprachlich zu den Bantu gehört. Der Name bezieht sich angeblich auf einen ihrer Häuptlinge in der Geschichte. Sich selbst bezeichnen sie als amaXhosa. Sie sind im Rahmen der Nord-Süd-Wanderung der schwarzafrikanischen Stammesvölker ins südliche Afrika gelangt. Ihre Sprache, die zahlreiche lautliche Elemente (z.B. Schnalzlaute) der ursprünglichen Buschmann-Sprachen aufgenommen hat, nennt sich isiXhosa.

Xhosa albo Khosa - lud zamieszkujący tereny Afryki Południowej, zwłaszcza RPA i Lesotho. W 1983 roku liczebność Xhosa wynosiła 5,6 mln. Lud ten posługuje się językiem xhosa z rodziny bantu. Do tradycyjnych zajęć Xhosa zalicza się chów bydła i rolnictwo, a także obróbka żelaza i plecionkarstwo. Struktura społeczna opiera się na egzogamicznych klanach o patrylinearnym systemie pokrewieństwa. Poszczególne klany różnią się między sobą kolorami strojów i sposobem przystrajania się paciorkami.

Gli Xhosa sono un gruppo etnico di origine Bantu, provenienti dall'Africa centrale e attualmente presenti nella parte sudorientale del Sudafrica, soprattutto nella provincia di Eastern Cape. Sono il gruppo etnico più numeroso in Sudafrica dopo gli Zulu. La lingua xhosa fa parte del gruppo delle lingue bantu.
