XGA

XGA, the eXtended Graphics Array, is an IBM display standard introduced in 1990. Today, it is the most common appellation of the 1024 × 768 pixels display resolution, but the official definition is broader than that. It was not a new and improved replacement for Super VGA, but rather became one particular subset of the broad range of capabilities covered under the "Super VGA" umbrella.

XGA+ stands for eXtended Graphics Array Plus and is a computer display standard. XGA+ is often used on 17 inch desktop CRT monitors. XGA+ is usually understood to refer to the 1152x864 resolution with an aspect ratio of 4:3. As LCD screens are getting increasingly popular, this resolution is decreasing in use, but it is the native resolution of some 15 inch LCD displays.

XGA ist die Abkürzung für Extended Graphics Array. Es bezeichnet einerseits einen Computergrafik-Standard (VESA 2.0), der bestimmte Kombinationen von Bildauflösung und Farbanzahl (Bittiefe) sowie Wiederholfrequenz definiert. Andererseits steht es auch einfach für die Auflösung 1024 × 768 Bildpunkte (Seitenverhältnis 4:3, 12:9) unabhängig von anderen Parametern.Ein wenig verbreitetes Unterformat ist XGA-2 mit 1360 oder 1366 × 1024 Bildpunkten. Häufiger sind stattdessen Formate mit einer Breite von 1152 Pixeln anzutreffen. Neben dem erwartungsgemäßen 1152 × 864 Pixeln (4:3) gibt es an Apple Macintoshs auch 1152 × 870 (< 4:3) und an SGI- und SUN-Workstations 1152 × 900 Pixel (> 5:4).

Rozdzielczość XGA jest obecnie jedną z powszechnie używanych rozdzielczości; następcą tej rozdzielczości jest SXGA.XGA pozwala na wyświetlenie obrazu w rozdzielczości 1024x768 punktów i 256 kolorach.
