Extensible Forms Description Language (XFDL) is a class of the Extensible Markup Language (XML) specified in World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) NOTE-XFDL-19980902, Extensible Forms Description Language (XFDL) 4.0, September 2, 1998. XFDL is a high-level computer language that facilitates defining a form as a single, stand-alone object using XML elements and attributes. It offers precise control over form layout, permitting replacement of existing business/government forms in a human-readable, open standard.

eXtensible Forms Description Language

Abkürzung für "Extensible Forms Description Language" • (Mitte 1998 neue) Seitenbeschreibungs-Sprache für Online-Formulare, die UWI.com in Zusammenarbeit mit dem World Wide Web Consortium (W3C ) entwickelt hat.
XFDL ist ein Ableger von XML und soll in erster Linie das Ausfüllen komplexer Formulare - etwa Verträgen - erleichtern. Das besondere daran: Einträge in die Formulare lassen sich nachträglich korrigieren. Dies war bislang nicht möglich gewesen und hatte zahlreiche Unternehmen davon abgehalten, in den elektronischen Handel einzusteigen. Die neue Seitenbeschreibungssprache soll mit jedem Browser funktionieren.
