Wuhan ( ) is the capital of Hubei province, People's Republic of China, and is the most populous city in Central China. It lies at the east of the Jianghan Plain, and the intersection of the middle reaches of the Yangtze and Han rivers. Arising out of the conglomeration of three districts, Wuchang, Hankou, and Hanyang, Wuhan is known as "the nine provinces' leading thoroughfare"; it is a major transportation hub, with dozens of railways, roads and expressways passing through the city. Because of its key role in domestic transportation, Wuhan was sometimes referred to as the "Chicago of China." It is recognized as the political, economic, financial, cultural, educational and transportation center of central China. The city of Wuhan, first termed as such in 1927, has a population of 10,020,000 people (Census 2011), with about 6,434,373 residents in its urban area. In the 1920s, Wuhan was the national capital of a leftist Kuomintang (KMT) government led by Wang Jingwei in opposition to Chiang Kai-shek, as well as wartime capital in 1937.

ist eine Unterprovinzstadt und die Hauptstadt der Provinz Hubei in der Volksrepublik China. In der Innenstadt – dem geografischen Stadtgebiet – leben 4.262.236 Menschen (Ende 2008) mit Hauptwohnsitz. Das gesamte Verwaltungsgebiet Wuhans hat 8.792.367 Einwohner (Stand 2005). Das knapp 8.500 km² große Verwaltungsgebiet stellt kein zusammenhängendes urbanes Siedlungsgebiet dar, sondern wäre – mit seiner außerhalb der Innenstadt dominierenden ländlichen Siedlungsstruktur – eher mit einer kleinen Provinz vergleichbar. Das innere Wuhan ist eine Zusammenlegung der drei ehemaligen Städte Wuchang, Hankou (früher oft auch als Hankow oder Hankau transliteriert) und Hanyang.

C'est la douzième plus grande ville la plus peuplée du pays, et la deuxième plus grande ville de l'intérieur, après Chongqing. Elle a le statut administratif de ville sous-provinciale. Sa population est de 9,7 millions d'habitants.

Wuhan är provinshuvudstad för Hubei-provinsen i Kina. Staden har drygt 8 miljoner invånare och ligger belägen där floderna Yangtze och Hanfloden möts. Dagens stad är resultatet av en hopslagning av de tre mindre städerna Hankou, Wuchang och Hanyang.

Wielki ośrodek przemysłu, zwłaszcza ciężkiego i maszynowego, centrum kulturalno-naukowe prowincji, 21 wyższych uczelni.
