Wuhan

It lies at the east of Jianghan Plain, and the intersection of the middle reaches of the Yangtze and Han River. Arising out of the conglomeration of three boroughs, Wuchang, Hankou, and Hanyang, Wuhan is known as the "thoroughfare of nine provinces"; it is a major transportation hub, with dozens of railways, roads and expressways passing through the city. The city of Wuhan, first termed as such in 1927, has a population of approximately 9,100,000 people (2006), with about 6,100,000 residents in its metropolitan area. In the 1920s, Wuhan was the capital of a leftist Kuomintang (KMT) government led by Wang Jingwei in opposition to Chiang Kai-shek, now Wuhan is recognized as the political, economic, financial, cultural, educational and transportation center of central China.

ist eine Unterprovinzstadt und die Hauptstadt der Provinz Hubei in der Volksrepublik China. In der Innenstadt - dem geografischen Stadtgebiet - leben 4.191.774 Menschen mit Hauptwohnsitz. Das gesamte Verwaltungsgebiet Wuhans hat 8.792.367 Einwohner (Stand 2005). Das knapp 8.500 km² große Verwaltungsgebiet stellt kein zusammenhängendes urbanes Siedlungsgebiet dar, sondern wäre - mit seiner außerhalb der Innenstadt dominierenden ländlichen Siedlungsstruktur - eher mit einer kleinen Provinz vergleichbar. Das innere Wuhan ist eine Zusammenlegung der drei ehemaligen Städte Wuchang, Hankou (dt. Hankau) und Hanyang.

Stolica prowincji Hubei. Konurbacja miejska, złożona z Hankou, Hanyang i Wuchang, liczy wg źródeł demograficznych ONZ około 9,1 mln mieszkańców (2006). Wielki ośrodek przemysłu, zwłaszcza ciężkiego i maszynowego, centrum kulturalno-naukowe prowincji, 21 wyższych uczelni.

Wuhan (Cinese tradizionale: 武漢; cinese semplificato: 武汉; pinyin: Wǔhàn) è il capoluogo della provincia dell'Hubei, e la più popolosa cità della Cina centrale. Si trova alla confluenza del Fiume Azzurro e del Fiume Han. Ha una popolazione di approssimativamente 9.100.000 abitanti secondo le stime del 2006. Negli anni venti, Wuhan era la capitale di un governo nazionalista cinese di sinistra di Wang Jingwei in opposizione a Chiang Kai-shek. È considerata, in termini americani, come la "Chicago della Cina".
