Wrangell Mountains

The Wrangell Mountains are a high mountain range of eastern Alaska in the United States. Much of the range is included in Wrangell-Saint Elias National Park and Preserve. The Wrangell Mountains are almost entirely volcanic in origin, and they include the second and third highest volcanoes in the United States, Mount Blackburn and Mount Sanford. The range takes its name from Mount Wrangell, which is one of the largest andesite shield volcanoes in the world, and also the only presently active volcano in the range. The Wrangell Mountains comprise most of the Wrangell Volcanic Field, which also extends into the neighboring Saint Elias Mountains and the Yukon Territory in Canada.

Les Montagnes Wrangell sont une chaîne montagneuse située dans l'est de l'Alaska aux États-Unis. Die Wrangell Mountains sind ein bis 4.996 m hoher Gebirgszug im Südosten von Alaska (USA) und im Südwesten des Yukon-Territoriums (Kanada). Sie liegen etwa 62° nördlicher Breite und zwischen 142° und 145° westlicher Länge.Der Gebirgszug schließt sich direkt nordwestlich an die Eliaskette an, die entlang der Küste am Golf von Alaska liegen. Er schirmt die Inlandbereiche von der wärmeren feuchten Luft des Pazifiks ab, wodurch die Landstriche nördlich der Wrangell Mountains während der Winter zu den kältesten Bereichen von Nordamerika werden.

Munţii Wrangell (Wrangell Mountains) este un masiv muntos situat în sud-estul penisulei Alaska şi sud-vestul teritoriului Yukon (Canada) şi care atinge . Lanţul muntos este amplasat la nord de paralela de 62° şi între meridianele de vest de 142° si 145° . Masivul se continuă direct în nord-vest cu Munţii Saint Elias care se întind de-a lungul golfului Alaska. Munţii joacă un rol de paravan în faţa aerului umed şi cald dinspre Pacific, din care cauză regiunea din nordul masivului este una dintre cele mai reci regiuni din America de Nord, aici îşi are izvorul Tanana River. Cea mai mare parte a masivului ce aparţine de SUA se află pe teritoriul Parcului Naţional Wrangell-St.-Elias, iar partea canadiană de Parcul Naţional Kluane.
