World Cyber Games

The World Cyber Games (WCG) is an international e-sports event (or "Cyber Games Festival") operated by Korean company International Cyber Marketing and backed by Samsung and, starting in 2006, Microsoft. [1] The official motto of WCG is "Beyond the Game."The World Cyber Games were set up in 2000 with the first festival being held in 2001. The festival is influenced by the Olympic Games with a players village for competitors and since 2004 a different host city every year.WCG is the largest gaming festival celebrated once a year. More than one million visitors come and visit every year. It unites gamers from all over the world to allow players to enjoy and respect the gaming environment. Each participating country will conduct preliminary rounds before sending the finest gamers to represent them in this major event. Over 700 players from over 70 countries will face off in Seattle, 2007. Spike TV is the WCG's official media partner.

Die World Cyber Games (WCG) sind das weltweit größte, jährlich stattfindendes E-Sport-Event, welches mit Abstand die höchsten Preisgelder für die Gewinner ausschüttet (zum Beispiel 25.000 $ für den Gewinner bei StarCraft: Brood War). Ins Leben gerufen wurden sie mit Unterstützung des koreanischen Mischkonzerns Samsung. Dieser ist auch heute noch Hauptsponsor. Nachdem das Event als WCG Challenge im Jahr 2000 gestartet war, finden die WCG seit 2001 jährlich statt.

World Cyber Games (WCG, ang. Światowe Igrzyska Cybernetyczne) to międzynarodowy festiwal gier komputerowych, prowadzony przez International Cyber Marketing z Korei Południowej przy udziale firmy Samsung i południowokoreańskiego rządu. Inne określenie to cyberolimpiada, bo ambicją organizatorów jest wykreowanie WCG na komputerowy odpowiednik Igrzysk Olimpijskich.

Il World Cyber Games è un evento internazionale che coinvolge i migliori giocatori di videogiochi di tutto il mondo. La prima edizione si è tenuta nel 2000 a Seoul (Corea del Sud) con il nome sperimentale di WCG Challenge.Con il passare degli anni, la manifestazione (definita da alcuni giornali come le "Olimpiadi dei videogiochi") è rapidamente cresciuta in importanza e prestigio. Dal 2001, essa ha assunto il nome di World Cyber Games Grand Final e la cadenza annuale.Fino al 2003, le finali si sono tenute tutte in Corea del Sud. Nel 2004 si è deciso di renderla itinerante. Inoltre Samsung, sponsor principale dell'evento, seleziona da allora varie società all'interno delle diverse nazioni per incaricarle della selezione dei cyber-atleti che dovranno partecipare alla Grand Final. Per l'Italia, la società incaricata è stata fino al 2006 NGI. L'incarico è passato a Progaming Italia, a partire dalle qualificazioni del 2007. Dopo San Francisco e Singapore, per il 2006 è toccato all'Italia organizzare i "Cyber-Giochi", che si sono tenuti a fine 2006 a Monza, nel 2007 a Seattle e per il 2008 si terranno a Colonia.
