Wolf 359

Wolf 359 is a star located approximately 2.4 parsecs or 7.8 light years from Earth. It is one of the nearest stars; only the Alpha Centauri system and Barnard's star are known to be closer. Its celestial position is in the constellation Leo, near the ecliptic. It is an extremely faint red dwarf, too dim to be visible to the naked eye, and it is a flare star.

Wolf 359 est une étoile située à environ 2,4 parsecs du système solaire, ce qui en fait l'une des étoiles les plus proches de la Terre, seuls le système stellaire Alpha Centauri et l'étoile de Barnard sont connus comme étant plus proches. Wolf 359 ist ein ca. 7,8 Lichtjahre vom Sonnensystem entfernter und damit nach der Sonne der fünftnächste Stern. Am Himmel steht der als roter Zwerg klassifizierte Himmelskörper im Sternbild Löwe, ist aber aufgrund seiner geringen Helligkeit nur auf durch das Teleskop aufgenommenen Bildern zu sehen. Wolf 359 wurde 1918 mittels Astrofotografie vom deutschen Astronomen Max Wolf entdeckt.

Wolf 359 (CN Leo) – jedna z najbliższych nam gwiazd, piąta pod względem odległości od Układu Słonecznego. Położona w gwiazdozbiorze Lwa w odległości 7,57 lat świetlnych. Jest to bardzo stara gwiazda, licząca sobie ok. 10 mld lat, ale ze względu na jej niewielką masę, będzie przebywać na Ciągu Głównym jeszcze przez co najmniej dziesiątki mld lat. Jej średnica to max 260000 km (0,19 średnicy Słońca), masa Wolfa 359 szacowana jest na ok. 0,09-0,13 mas Słońca, jasność zaś stanowi zaledwie 0,00002 jasności naszej Dziennej Gwiazdy. Temperatura powierzchni to 3500 K.

Wolf 359 è una stella nana rossa apparentemente trascurabile che se ne sta quasi invisibile alla magnitudine 13,66 (del tutto invisibile ad occhio nudo e difficile da scorgere anche nella maggior parte dei telescopi amatoriali) nella costellazione del Leone. È però la quarta stella in ordine di distanza e la scoperta (dell'astronomo Max Wolf, da cui prende il nome) si deve al suo grande moto proprio (4,8 secondi d'arco all'anno).
