Windows NT

Windows NT (New Technology) is a family of operating systems produced by Microsoft, the first version of which was released in July 1993. It was originally designed to be a powerful high-level-language-based, processor-independent, multiprocessing, multiuser operating system with features comparable to Unix. It was intended to complement consumer versions of Windows that were based on MS-DOS. NT was the first fully 32-bit version of Windows, whereas its consumer-oriented counterparts, Windows 3.1x and Windows 9x, were 16-bit/32-bit hybrids. Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008 (beta), and Windows Home Server are the latest versions of Windows, and are based upon the original Windows NT system (as was Windows 2000), although they are not branded as Windows NT releases.

Windows NT ist ein Betriebssystem der Firma Microsoft. Es wurde in den Versionen 3.1, 3.5, 3.51 und 4.0 vertrieben. Mit dem Nachfolger Windows 2000 wurde das Kürzel NT aufgegeben.Nach Aussage von Mark Lucovsky steht NT für „N-Ten“, der Begriff war der Codename für eine zu der Zeit in Entwicklung befindliche CPU, den Intel i860, der als Plattform für NT gedacht war, jedoch zu der Zeit bei Microsoft nicht vorlag, weshalb auf einem Emulator entwickelt wurde. Zu Vermarktungszwecken wurde das Kürzel in New Technology umgedeutet.

Microsoft Windows NT (New Technology) - rodzina 32- i 64-bitowych systemów operacyjnych firmy Microsoft, początkowo przeznaczonych do zastosowań profesjonalnych, obecnie jest to także najpopularniejszy system wśród użytkowników domowych. Najnowsza wersja NT dla komputerów osobistych i stacji roboczych to Windows Vista, a dla serwerów Windows Server 2003. Obecnie Microsoft oficjalnie wspiera jeszcze Windows XP z dodatkiem Service Pack 2.

Windows NT è una famiglia di sistemi operativi prodotti da Microsoft. La sigla "NT" non ha un significato ufficiale, tuttavia viene comunemente interpretata come le iniziali di "New Technology" (in italiano Nuova Tecnologia). I sistemi operativi Windows NT sono stati pensati per le utenze aziendali, sia server che workstation, affiancando inizialmente i sistemi operativi Windows 3.x, ed in seguito Windows 9x, destinati invece a un'utenza domestica e all'office automation.
