Windows 3.1

This article is about the DOS-based operating environment. For the version of Microsoft Windows built on the Windows NT kernel, see Windows NT 3.1. Windows 3.1x is a graphical user interface and a part of the Microsoft Windows software family. Several editions were released between 1992 and 1994, succeeding Windows 3.0. This family of Windows can run in either Standard or 386 Enhanced memory modes. The exception is Windows for Workgroups 3.11, which can only officially run in 386 Enhanced mode.

La version 3 de Windows est un système d'exploitation apparu en 1990. La version 3 a été la première à connaître un large succès, permettant à son concepteur Microsoft de rivaliser avec l'Apple Macintosh ou l'Amiga de Commodore sur le plan de l'interface graphique. La lignée 3x de Windows est la première à être commercialisée directement sur un nouveau PC.

Microsoft Windows 3.x stellt die dritte Version der Windows-Serie der Firma Microsoft dar.Die früheren Versionen von Windows waren keine Betriebssysteme, sondern lediglich eine „graphische Betriebssystemerweiterung“, die auf MS-DOS aufsetzten. Streng genommen galt und gilt dies sowohl für alle 3.x-Versionen als auch für alle Windows 9x-Versionen inklusive Windows Millennium Edition (ME). Dennoch enthält Windows gerade seit den 3er-Versionen so viele gemeinsame Funktionen und Elemente, dass oft von Windows als Betriebssystem gesprochen wird.

Windows 3.x to część rodziny graficznych interfejsów użytkownika GUI firmy Microsoft, działających w systemie operacyjnym MS-DOS. Rodzina Windows 3.x została wydana w latach 1990-1994. Wersja 3.0 zyskała dużą popularność, dzięki czemu Microsoft mógł wreszcie konkurować na rynku GUI z firmami Apple i Commodore. Do tamtej pory Macintosh i Amiga nie miały sobie równych.

In informatica con il termine Windows 3.x si indicano i sistemi operativi Windows prodotti da Microsoft tra il 1990 ed il 1994 (Windows 3.0, Windows 3.1, Windows for Workgroups 3.1, Windows for Workgroups 3.11, Windows 3.11 e Windows 3.2). In realtà non è corretto parlare di sistemi operativi, in quanto Windows 3.x era in realtà un "ambiente operativo" grafico da installare su DOS.
