William Lawson
William Lawson (2 June1774 – 16 June1850) was an explorer of New South WalesAustralia who co-discovered a passage inland through the Blue Mountains from Sydney.Lawson was born in London and arrived in Sydney as an ensign with the New South Wales Corps in 1800, soon being posted to Norfolk Island. In 1808 and 1809 he was in charge of the new settlement at Coal River, now the city of Newcastle..Shortly after 1808, Lawson was appointed aide-de-camp to George Johnston and was granted 500 acres (2 km²) at Prospect, which he named Vereran Hall. He built a 40-room mansion there.
