White blood cells, or leukocytes (also spelled "leucocytes"; from the Greek word leuko- meaning "white"), are cells of the immune system involved in defending the body against both infectious disease and foreign materials. Five different and diverse types of leukocytes exist, but they are all produced and derived from a multipotent cell in the bone marrow known as a hematopoietic stem cell. They live inbetween 6 hours and two days. Leukocytes are found throughout the body, including the blood and lymphatic system.

Leukozyten oder weiße Blutkörperchen (von altgriechisch  leukós „weiß“ sowie altgriechisch  kýtos „Höhlung“, „Gefäß“, „Hülle“) sind bestimmte Zellen des Körpers, die im Blut, im Knochenmark, in den lymphatischen Organen und anderen Körpergeweben zu finden sind. Morphologisch werden sie den Erythrozyten (roten Blutkörperchen) gegenübergestellt, da sie im Gegensatz zu diesen nicht den roten Farbstoff Hämoglobin enthalten. Die quantitative Zusammensetzung der Leukozyten im peripheren Blut wird im Differentialblutbild erfasst.

Vita blodkroppar eller leukocyter är celler i blodet som ingår i kroppens immunförsvar för att skydda kroppen mot infektionssjukdomar. Vita blodkroppar produceras i benmärgen och återfinns i lymfknutarna och mjälten, samt ute i vävnaderna vid inflammatoriska tillstånd. Halten av olika vita blodkroppar kan mätas i ett blodprov för att se om en inflammatorisk process pågår eller om immunförsvaret är nedsatt.
