Western Hemisphere
The Western Hemisphere or western hemisphere is mainly used as a geographical term for the half of the Earth that lies west of the IERS Reference Meridian (which crosses Greenwich, London, United Kingdom) and east of the Antimeridian (the International Date Line), the other half being called the Eastern Hemisphere.

Westliche und östliche Hemisphäre
Der Nullmeridian und der Längengrad 180, der ungefähr der Datumsgrenze entspricht, teilen die Erde in zwei Halbkugeln (Hemisphären), die westliche und östliche Hemisphäre. Im Gegensatz zur Nord- und Südhalbkugel ist die Aufteilung nicht durch die Erdgeometrie vorgegeben, sondern durch den Nullmeridian festgelegt.

Hémisphère Ouest
L'hémisphère Ouest est la moitié de la Terre qui est à l'ouest du méridien de Greenwich. Les longitudes y sont inscrites par des nombres négatifs, ou bien par la mention Ouest (Exemple : 65° O ou -65°). Elle s'oppose à la notion d'hémisphère Est. Paradoxalement on verra, par exemple ici , que le terme renvoie dans son étymologie au couchant (est ) et non au levant(ouest),du point de vue européen.

Pólkula zachodnia
Półkula zachodnia - część część kuli ziemskiej, półkula położona między południkami 0° a 180°. Obejmuje wszystkie punkty oznaczone długością geograficzną zachodnią, tj. W.
W przeciwieństwie do podziału na półkule południową i północną, wynikające z ruchu obrotowego Ziemi i wyznaczenia płaszczyzny do niego prostopadłej, czyli równika, podział na półkulę zachodnią i wschodnią jest podziałem sztucznym. Opiera się on na sztucznie wyznaczonym południku zerowym.
Na półkuli zachodniej położone są dwa kontynenty: Ameryka Północna i Ameryka Południowa. Dlatego też często termin ten używa się jako określenie geopolityczne oznaczające obszar obu Ameryk.

Westelijk halfrond
Het westelijk halfrond is het gedeelte van de wereld dat westelijk van de nulmeridiaan ligt en oostelijk van de 180-graden meridiaan. Tussen deze meridianen worden de meridianen uitgedrukt in een aantal graden westerlengte.
Op de rest van de wereld, het oostelijk halfrond, wordt gemeten in aantallen graden oosterlengte.
Hoewel veel Europese landen tot de westerse wereld worden gerekend, liggen deze voor een groot deel op het oostelijk halfrond.
