Weimar

Weimar is a city in Germany. It is located in the Bundesland of Thuringia (German: Thüringen), north of the Thüringer Wald, east of Erfurt, and southwest of Halle and Leipzig. Its current population is approximately 64,000. The oldest record of the city dates from the year 899. Weimar was the capital of the Duchy (after 1815 the Grand Duchy) of Saxe-Weimar (German Sachsen-Weimar). The city also gives its name to the Weimar Republic.

Weimar ist eine kreisfreie Stadt in Thüringen (Deutschland), die vor allem für ihr kulturelles Erbe bekannt ist. Weimar liegt an einem Bogen der Ilm südöstlich des Ettersberges, der mit einer Höhe von 478 Metern der höchste Berg im Thüringer Becken ist. Sie ist nach Erfurt, Jena und Gera die viertgrößte Stadt Thüringens, außerdem ist sie jene mit dem höchsten Bevölkerungswachstum im Freistaat.

Obecnie jest to jedno z europejskich centrów kulturalnych, które było miejscem pracy wielu wybitnych postaci, jak Bach, Goethe, Schiller i Herder. W mieście zostali pochowani Goethe, Schiller i Nietzsche, znajdują się w nim także archiwa Goethego i Schillera.
