Wehrmacht

Wehrmacht ("armed forces", literally "defence make") was the name of the unified armed forces of Germany from 1935 to 1945. The Wehrmacht consisted of the Heer (army), the Kriegsmarine (navy) and the Luftwaffe (air force). The Waffen-SS, an initially small paramilitary section of Heinrich Himmler's Allgemeine SS that grew to nearly a million strong during World War II, was not officially part of the Wehrmacht, but subject to OKW, OKH, as well as Field Command. Thus, the Waffen-SS was, de facto, a fourth branch of the Wehrmacht.

Der Begriff Wehrmacht (fälschlicherweise auch Deutsche Wehrmacht; deutsch darf hier nur als Adjektiv gesehen werden, nicht als Teil des Eigennamens) bezeichnet die durch das Gesetz über den Aufbau der Wehrmacht vom 16. März 1935 des Rumpfreichstages aus der damaligen  Reichswehr hervorgegangenen deutschen Streitkräfte in der Zeit bis zur offiziellen Auflösung im August 1946. Die deutsche Wehrmacht gliederte sich danach in Heer, Kriegsmarine und Luftwaffe.

Wehrmacht – niemieckie siły zbrojne okresu III Rzeszy. Zostały utworzone 16 marca 1935 roku wbrew traktatowi wersalskiemu zastępując Reichswehrę. Powstały po wprowadzeniu przez Adolfa Hitlera powszechnej służby wojskowej. W skład Wehrmachtu wchodziły niezależne od siebie i posiadające własne sztaby generalne; wojska lądowe (Heer), lotnictwo (Luftwaffe) i marynarka wojenna (Kriegsmarine).

Wehrmacht è il nome assunto dalle forze armate tedesche a partire dal 1935 e per tutta la durata della seconda guerra mondiale. Nata dalle ceneri della Reichswehr, nel dopoguerra è stata sostituita dalla Bundeswehr nella Repubblica Federale di Germania e dalla Nationale Volksarmee nella Repubblica Democratica Tedesca.
