Washington, D.C.
Washington, D.C., formally the District of Columbia and commonly referred to as Washington, "the District", or simply D.C., is the capital of the United States. On July 16, 1790, the United States Congress approved the creation of a federal district to become the national capital as permitted by the U.S. Constitution. The District is therefore not a part of any U.S. state. It was formed from land along the Potomac River donated by the states of Maryland and Virginia; however, the Virginia portion was returned by Congress in 1846.

Washington [] ist die Hauptstadt und der Regierungssitz der Vereinigten Staaten. Das Stadtgebiet von Washington ist identisch mit dem District of Columbia, für den die Abkürzung D.C. steht. Das Gebiet gehört zu keinem Bundesstaat, sondern ist als Bundesdistrikt dem Kongress der Vereinigten Staaten direkt unterstellt. Die Stadt ist benannt nach George Washington, dem Oberbefehlshaber im Unabhängigkeitskrieg und ersten Präsidenten der Vereinigten Staaten. Der District of Columbia ist nach Columbia, einer poetischen Bezeichnung für die USA, benannt.

Washington (District de Columbia) ( Washington, District of Columbia), écrit le plus souvent Washington, DC, est la capitale fédérale des États-Unis. On y trouve la Maison Blanche, résidence officielle du président, le Capitole, siège du Congrès (deux chambres, celle des Représentants et le Sénat), ainsi que le siège de la Cour suprême et d'autres organismes fédéraux, comme la Réserve fédérale des États-Unis (la Fed).

Washington, Washington, D.C. eller i vardaglig engelska bara D.C. är huvudstad i USA. Washington är en stad med breda avenyer, parker och många vita byggnader och monument centrerade runt The National Mall. Staden sammanfaller geografiskt med District of Columbia (D.C.), och tillhör alltså ingen delstat.

Waszyngton
Waszyngton, Dystrykt Kolumbii (ang. Washington D.C., District of Columbia) - stolica Stanów Zjednoczonych. Położony jest pomiędzy stanami Maryland i Wirginia, na lewym brzegu rzeki Potomak, przy ujściu rzeki Anacostia, z którą uchodzą wspólnie do zatoki Chesapeake. W 2000 liczył 572 tys. mieszkańców. Jest częścią obszaru metropolitalnego Waszyngton-Baltimore, który ma 7,6 mln mieszkańców (2000).
