WAND is an NBC affiliate in Decatur, Illinois; serving the Decatur–SpringfieldChampaign area. It is a joint venture of Block Communications (67%) and LIN Television (33%). However, LIN manages the station. It broadcasts on analog UHF channel 17 and digital UHF channel 18 from a transmitter near Argenta, Illinois, with a translator, W31BX, in Danville, Illinois.

Wand
A wand consists of a thin, straight, hand-held stick of woodivory, or metal. Generally, in modern language, wands are ceremonial and/or have associations with magic but there have been other uses, all stemming from the original meaning as a synonym of rod and virge, both of which had a similar development.
